Appearance
:
Mori stands at 5'10" and has a build on the smaller side. While not incredibly muscular, his body is still toned enough from years of physical strain. He has dark hair that appears shaggy and short. He does his best to keep himself cleanly shaved. His eyes are dark and almost snarky, with looks of rebellious condescension abound. His right arm is his prosthetic, which is generally hidden under his sleeve. It is made of a sleek metal, and hardly seems human. At the wrist is a small dial, similar to a small timer. It is widely unmarked, with only a few notches around it. There are some discontinuities in the form of the arm, showing where the crossbow and scope are raised during combat. At the bicep, a similar compartment is found. If one were to open it, they would find an empty space in which crossbow bolts are placed, which are fed through the locked arm and loaded into the crossbow.
Personality
:
Mori seems to be a human being who uses everything at his disposal to reach an end goal. He is not opposed to using deadly force. At the same time, he always seems to be deep in thought. In his mind, he plans the most efficient ways to carry out his tasks, in order to minimize collateral damage and get the job done. If, sometimes, that means diplomacy, he will reluctantly accept. At times, he can be blunt, and he is rarely afraid to speak his mind. He does not take well to being ordered around, despite his history of taking orders under Cavea. Mori finds it difficult to work with other people. After working with many different teammates, he has affirmed that his sister, Lucia, has been the only teammate he tolerates. All others simply get in his way. At least, that's what he says. Mori's Golden Rule: Look out for number one.
History
:
The city of Cavea is home to an organization called Cavea, sharing the name of the town itself. The organization is well known for its willingness to accept any and all jobs that are offered to it. Missions ranging from client protection to assassination are often found in the hands of the men and women of the city. These missions are carried out within small teams, usually of two or three. With a high success rate, Cavea utilizes its mercenary outsourcing as its primary means of income. The Cavea are led by Dominicus Haliaeetus. Serving under him are the Falconidae, who serve in official posts both in city management and mission dispersion. Missions are delegated to the Coragyps or the Turdus, who are melee fighters and magicians, respectively. While they are usually assigned to protection or assault tasks, it is not uncommon for them to carry out killing contracts. The Trochilidae serve as potioneers, supplying patrons and mercenaries with healing concoctions and vile poisons for every job. Those who choose not to serve in the more violent roles are the Passeridae, the civilians. These are not only titles, but last names given to all members of Cavea. There are, however, exceptions to the rule. Mori was born into Cavea under the Haliaeetus himself. He, along with his sister, Lucia, were brought up to accept and appreciate the life of a mercenary and the specializations that came with it. At a young age, the twins showed great promise. Many saw young Mori veer towards the path of the Coragyps, while Lucia leaned towards the path of the Turdus. Mori, however, began learning the arts of stealth and deception in addition to his practice with the crossbow. In contrast, Lucia found herself enamored with the concept of shock and awe, and she slowly began to incorporate firearms and explosives into her training. By age fourteen, the two were the most specialized mercenaries of their kind, granting them their own titles. Mori Corvus and Lucia Fenix became the most successful and most efficient team in all of Cavea. By fifteen, the two were sought after by many contractors, bringing large amounts of gold for their services. Soon, they were allowed to take missions on their own. Lucia became reserved for high-end assault missions, tearing down buildings and city walls with her brand of explosive ordinance. Mori, on the other hand, found his calling in stealth, deceit, and spilling blood at any range. Alone, they were unstoppable. Together, they were godlike. By seventeen, Mori had lost his arm in an assignment gone wrong. While the limb was beyond saving, the assassin had made powerful contacts through his work. A skilled craftsman came to Cavea in order to replace his arm. Mori was unconscious for the entire procedure, but when he awoke, he discovered a mechanical prosthesis, linked to his nervous system, where his old arm once was. Soon, he discovered that it doubled as a weapon. At his command, the metal hand would compress and insert itself into the forearm, and a crossbow would unfold as his elbow locked into a straight line. Examining his new toy, he found that the upper arm held a compartment to contain the weapon's bolts. After weeks of rehabilitation and retraining, Mori Corvus became deadlier than he had ever been before. At age eighteen, Mori worked a series of jobs for a wealthy and well known mine operator. As a reward for his unfailing service, he received a small, crimson stone. This mineral, as he was told, was called Phoenix Ash, and contained many magical properties, most of which were unknown to the human world. The only constant of the mineral was that, no matter how much it was ground up and broken, it would always come back together when in contact with a living animal's life force. However, those who used it before found the mineral would reform itself within a blood vessel and cause death to the user. That particular stone had gone through several other human test subjects before being considered a worthy reward for Mori Corvus. The assassin later took the stone to his craftsman, who created a way to utilize the mineral. Through a series of surgeries, the stone was placed in a wrist compartment, a grating dial was installed over it, and the container was linked to the bloodstream. There, a small filter was applied. Whenever he sought to utilize the Phoenix Ash, he only needed to turn the dial to break the mineral and allow it into his blood. On that day, he attempted to see what effect the mineral would have on him. One small turn of the dial released the Phoenix Ash into his system, and in an instant, his entire physique changed. For five whole minutes, his body was not his own. Instead, his entire body structure became that of his sister's. He was, indeed, made of the exact flesh and bone. It was then that its influence was realized. Upon interaction with his system, the mineral modified his physical structure to exactly match the structure of any person he chose. However, after five minutes passed, a terrible retransformation occurred. Pain shot through Mori's body as it reverted to its original form. The agony lasted for ten minutes, but it was more than enough to prove its effects. Yet, once that time was over, Mori found himself still standing, the blood filter returning the traces of Phoenix Ash back into its isolated compartment. Only he, the craftsman, and the mine operator knew of Mori's new possession. With this tool at his disposal, Mori Corvus was unstoppable. At age nineteen, Mori had begun to question following orders he did not agree with. The more he thought of his position, the more he grew to resent it. Instead of following commands, he should be the one giving them. Rumors of his dissent soon spread across Cavea. Some scoffed at his thoughts, while others embraced them. An unwritten division was formed in Cavea, separating those who supported the Haliaeetus and those who supported the Corvus. In order to quell the potential of a rebellion, the Haliaeetus labelled Mori a criminal and a traitor. He ordered the capture of his son, hoping to make him an example through execution. Reports soon came that Mori was already miles away. The best of the Coragyps were sent after him, but when they hadn't returned after three days, it became obvious that they were either incompetent or dead. Furious, the Haliaeetus sent Lucia to follow the exile's path, threatening her own execution if she could not bring her brother home. After months of travelling, Mori found himself in the city of Galdin, a place renowned for its Adventurers' Guild. Seeking the protection of asylum, the assassin makes every effort to join. Good luck to the members of his team. They're going to need it.
